some news
25.04.2006 // source: the tears official forum

Brett has posted this on the The Tears forum: "there's not much tears stuff happening at the moment to be honest but no one ever wanted this thing to get caught up within the drudgery of the whole tour/record/tour cycle anyway. it was always supposed to be something special that we did for the purest of motives so we will make a new record if and when we feel like it. having spent the last fifteen years of my life caught up in the grinding machinery of the music business i really would have learned nothing if i'd just wanted to merrilly jump back onto it's sweaty saddle."

Bernard has revealed on his official forum that The Tears record deal with Independiente was over about 8 months ago.

BRETT MESSAGE
14.03.2005 // source: thetears.org

Brett has posted at The Tears official forum:

Hello everyone,

loved the gigs recently. Manchester was the one for me. We reached something that night which we hadn't before. Hopefully there'll be more of that in April. My personal highlight was The Asylum probably cos we didn't play it in December. There are plans to keep this tradition going, to constantly change and devellop the set. No one wants this to turn into a tears by numbers/ greatest hits/ karaoke experience. Watch out for Southern Rain on the B side of Refugees. Recorded in a few hours it's one of my favourite thigs we've done so far. A dark, tearstained elegy that will touch the winter of your soul.

Thinking constantly about the new album. It's gonna be stark, it's gonna be emotional , it's gonna take this whole thing somewhere else.

Anyway I'm of to the Serpentine Gallery to see Tomoko Takahashi's pile of junk but before I go I want to remind those of you who live in the UK to remember to register to vote. Don't be one of the brain-dead masses who are more interested in the outcome of Big Brother than the general election. Don't let mindless American TV shows and adverts numb you to what's happening outside in your street. People have died for the right to vote. Don't insult them. Don't be lame. HAVE AN OPINION.

See you in April

Brett

Bernard is co-producing the first 'Western Electric System' album. Dan, their guitarist told me they're not splitting up despite Nathan is also playing with Brett and Bernard.

STATEMENT FROM BRETT
05.09.2004 // source: suede.net forum

Brett has posted this at the suede.net forum:

I thought I'd just make a brief appearance here to keep you all updated about what's going on.

Well, me and Bernard are back in a London studio putting the finishing touches on what is shaping up to be a truely special record. Usually by this point in making any album I go through a period of doubt about it's quality but this time the songs are just getting better. My drive, direction and focus, which became clouded towards the end of my work with Suede, are all back with a vengeance and both me and Bernard are excited about being back in the game.

The record should be finished in October so you will be able to judge for yourselves whether I am bullshitting or not early next year when it is released.

We are planning our first live appearance for December 2004.

My solo album is pretty much finished but will now probably be released after the Bernard record. It has turned out to be a dark, melancholic affair, kind of 'Brett Noir'. It goes without saying that I am hugely excited about this too.

That's it for now. The next news you will hear will be more concrete.

Thanks for all your love

Brett

BRETT & BERNARD NEWS

According to sherpa (suede fan) in a conversation with Brett, his solo album is already finished but it'll be released after the album with Bernard Butler, which is expected to be released on february or march 2005.

By the way Brett & Bernard have already decided a record company to release their album (Independiente Records / Sony).

According to the NME, Brett and Bernard are in the process of talking to various record labels about a deal and could even be planning impromptu live performances to try out the songs (maybe Benicassim).

It also seems that they're working with 18 songs including one called 'Refugees' (nothing to do with the unreleased 'Refugees' demoed by Suede for the ANM sessions in july 2000 at Stanbridge studios).

STATEMENT FROM BRETT

Brett has posted this at the suede.net forum:

I know there has been a lot of speculation and rumor about precisely what I'm up to so I thought I'd set the record straight.

Firstly I can confirm that me and Bernard are working together again. We've written about fifteen songs so far and even though it's early days I can honestly say that I believe the work to be up there with some of the best things we've ever done.
We have been rehearsing with a drummer and a bass player who will be part of our new band. I can't tell you what we will be called yet but it will not be Suede or Anderson and Butler.
We'll be entering a London studio to start recording in June so I'm hoping that you will hear something early next year.

Also I've been working on a solo album with a guy called Fred Ball. Some of you might have heard his Pleasure album from last year. The material is more programmed than the Bernard stuff but still song based.
Danish fans will have heard one of these songs, ' Love Is Dead ', at the recent Copenhagen show. The writing of this album is close to being finished too but I have a less clear plan as to when it might be released.

WELCOME TO THE NEXT LIFE

Brett.

BRETT AND BERNARD MEETING

Brett and Bernard met for a drink in London a few days after the end of the Suede tour. A band source told nme: "They definitely met but they’ve not spoken to each other for years. It’s early days yet. They met up and went out for an Indian meal and then some drinks. It’s important people give them space because otherwise it’ll end before it’s even started."
